Gear hobbing machine is a type of metal cutting machine specifically used for machining internal and external spur and helical cylindrical gears, as well as other toothed parts.

Its working principle is based on the generating method, which means that the gear tool and the workpiece move in generating motio

n according to the meshing relationship of the gear pair, and the tooth surface of the workpiece is enveloped by the cutting edge of the tool.

Unlike gear hobbing, gear hobbing cutters not only drive according to meshing relationships, but also need to move up and down simultaneously. 

In order to avoid scratching the surface of the processed workpiece with a gear hobbing tool,

During the idle stroke of the gear hobbing cutter, there must be a movement of the cutter relative to the workpiece,

 and at the beginning of the working stroke, the gear hobbing cutter (or workpiece) must return to its original position.

The structure of the gear hobbing machine has a vertical layout, and during machining, the workpiece on the worktable 

can perform longitudinal, transverse, or rotational movements. At the same time, the cutting tool performs reciprocating movements up and down to cut the workpiece, using a single head cutting tool.

The working principle of the slotting machine is similar to that of the hobbing machine, both of which work vertically. 

However, the slotting machine can only perform reciprocating motion, while the hobbing machine can perform both reciprocating motion and rotation.

Gear hobbing can process external gears, internal gears, stepped gear blocks, herringbone gears, and segmented gears. The outstanding feature of gear hobbing is its ability to process internal gears.
