1、 The working principle of gear shaping cutters

Gear shaper cutter is a multi edged cutting tool, typically provided with a fixed tangential angle by two or more blades. The cutting method of the gear shaping cutter is to move rapidly within the tooth groove of the gear, thereby achieving the machining of the gear. The specific work process consists of the following steps:

1. Initial position: A tooth edge of the gear cutter intersects with a tooth groove of the gear, but cutting has not yet begun.

2. Feed: The gear cutter moves towards the groove of the gear, and the tooth edge begins to cut.

3. Cutting: The cutting edge of the slotting cutter moves along the direction of the gear teeth, thereby cutting off the material on the gear.

4. Retraction: The gear cutter begins to detach from the tooth groove of the gear and eventually returns to its initial position.

The working principle of a gear shaping cutter is similar to that of a helical gear shaping cutter, but it is easier to machine deeper tooth grooves because its tooth edges are flat rather than spiral.

2、 The application of gear shaping cutters

Gear cutters are mainly used for producing gears and other gear transmission components. Its advantage is that it can produce gears with high precision, smooth surface, and low noise. In gear shaping cutting, cutting conditions are very important. For example, gears and gear cutters must have the correct clearance, and the cutting edges must be kept clean to avoid a decrease in cutting efficiency and increased wear of the cutting edges. In order to maintain the lifespan of the cutting tool, operators must regularly inspect and replace the cutting conditions.
