The working principle and interaction of gear shaping machines

The working principle of the gear shaping machine is mainly based on the motion of the gear shaping cutter and the interaction between the workpieces. Specifically:

1. Design of gear shaping cutter: The gear shaping cutter itself is a specially designed gear with the same modulus and pressure angle as the gear being processed. Each tooth has an involute profile and tooth tip, which are made into a cutting edge, including the top edge and two side edges, and have corresponding front and back angles.


2. Kinematic relationship: During the machining process, it is necessary to maintain the correct meshing relationship between the gear cutter and the workpiece. The reciprocating motion of the gear cutter and the arc length of the workpiece rotating on the indexing circle determine the circumferential feed rate, which makes the meshing process between the tool and the workpiece also a circumferential feed process.


3. Cutting motion: The slotting cutter moves back and forth up and down, which is a part of the cutting motion. At the same time, in order to gradually cut to the full tooth depth, the slotting cutter also needs a radial feed rate


4. Let the tool move: When the gear cutter moves upwards, the worktable drives the workpiece to exit the cutting area for a certain distance to avoid the tool scratching the machined tooth surface and reduce the wear of the tool teeth. When the gear cutter works, the worktable returns to its original position.


5. Positioning and cutting: Under certain kinematic side effects, the gear shaping machine positions the teeth before or after the cutting edge to ensure the safety of interference and the positional accuracy of the teeth, so as to facilitate the positioning and cutting of subsequent cutting tools.



6. Cutting forms: The cutting forms of gear cutters mainly include straight and eccentric cutting, and different cutting methods can be selected according to the requirements of gear accuracy, modulus, and production efficiency.


7. Auxiliary components: The gear hobbing machine also needs to be equipped with positioning devices, feed devices, bearings, spindles, motors, and other components. The motor drives the rotation of components such as the spindle, bearings, and gears, enabling the gear cutter to perform precise cutting. The feed device adjusts the feed rate to meet different machining requirements for gears, thereby ensuring the machining accuracy of the gear hobbing machine.
